Mission

The mission of the Department is to provide the highest quality education, training, and research environment for students, which will prepare them for successful careers in academia, industry, and government.

Academics

The department offers baccalaureate and master degree programs in two areas, Computer Science (CS) and in Computer Information Systems (CIS).

The CS program is heavily concentrated on design and development of software and software/hardware systems. Computer scientists are usually employed by software applications development companies and computer software/hardware manufacturers and are expected to design and develop various types of software applications, data management software, graphic user interfaces, language translators, operating systems, and other programming, processing, and operating aids.

CIS specialists are principally users of computer technology and advanced software applications. They are usually employed as programmer/analysts, system analysts, lead programmers, project leaders and managers for applications in business, industry, and government. Course work in this major emphasizes systems analysis and design, programming, applied computer science, systems implementation, and management.

The undergraduate program, both Major and Minor, offers a wide variety of classes designed to provide a broad background in CS and CIS areas.

The graduate program is the largest graduate program at Bradley University. Students can choose either a thesis or non-thesis option and can typically complete their program in less than two years.
